In the beginning of the 20th Century Quinta da Ferraria, with almost 90 hectares, was property of Júlio César Santos, who sold it to the Assentiz Viscount, incorporating thus its important little empire.

The main economic activity of the Farm was agriculture, namely wine production, olive oil and wheat. Assentiz Viscount, one of the last owners of QUINTA DA FERRARIA was a big equestrian enthusiast and was considered to be one of the best riders of the time, who had beautiful horses, an outside riding and an obstacles field in the valley to the equestrian execution of jumps.

Taking advantage of the hydraulic power of the Farm, where the unlevelled ditch with the waters from Rio Maior, is approximately 2 to 3 metres, the first olive oil press with hydraulic press was settled and, smartly, a mill and a rice bark were assembled and the Farm was all electrified, in order to have light all day and all night.
